volunteer with us

Take the next step. Rebuild with us.

Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay relies on volunteers of all skill levels to complete critical repairs for our neighbors in need. We encourage all individuals, groups and students to participate, just bring your energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to tackle any task and get dirty! Join our email list. We will teach you the skills you need and give you the tools to complete projects that allow our neighbors to remain safely at home. Become a volunteer today!

Skilled Volunteers

Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay needs you! We need plumbers, electricians, roofers, contractors, carpenters, painters, tile workers, drywall/sheetrock, flooring/carpet installation and HVAC professionals. These skilled volunteers may be skilled trades, retired or former trades, and/or weekend warriors.

Safe at Home & Energy Efficiency Volunteers

If you have the time to commit year-round and are somewhat handy, consider becoming a volunteer with the Safe at Home and Energy Efficiency programs. We will train you to do work such as installing grab bars and performing energy efficiency modifications.

Organizers & Occupational Therapists

Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay relies on more than tradesmen! Some of our homeowners have needs which require the help of a professional organizer or occupational therapist to properly address. From our preview process through our April Rebuilding Day, your expertise can go a long way towards changing somebody's life!

Previewers work with Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay staff to assess applicants and recommend projects for Rebuilding Days. To volunteer as a Previewer, you will first need to volunteer for at least two of our construction projects and have a clear understanding of Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay's mission and the types of projects that qualify for our assistance. In addition, Previewers commit to 20 to 30 hours of support between November and January for training and reviewing potential projects.

Non-Construction Volunteers

We are always on the lookout for people with backgrounds in administration, marketing, language translation, photography and videography. Additionally, we need safety coordinators to help ensure safe work sites, and warehouse volunteers to help organize and maintain our materials and supplies.

We welcome volunteers of ALL skill levels! We work hard to match projects with the skill level of different volunteers. If you're inexperienced, you might work on a painting or landscaping crew, and you will always be led by experienced, knowledgeable house captains who can answer any of your questions.
